A.N.M.(Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery)

ANM stands for Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery. It is a 2-year diploma course which focus on the study of health care of various individuals. It also taught about how to take care of equipment, setting up of Operation Theatre, provide medication timely to patient and maintain records.

Auxiliary nurse midwife is a village-level female health worker in India who is known as the first contact person between the community and the health services. The role may help communities achieve the targets of national health programmes.

ANM nursing diploma is the most basic course and is of the shortest duration, and in the meantime the students have to learn all the shades involved with the profession. The diploma level programme aims to train the students as nurses and help them develop skills to function efficiently in a hospital environment and can provide first aid, blood pressure monitoring, etc. along with having skills to function effectively in a team, assisting in research activities.

Syllabus of A.N.M. is as follows :

First Year Papers:

1. Health Promotion

2. Child Health Nursing

3. Community Health Nursing

4. Primary Health Care Nursing

Second Year Papers:

1. Health Centre Management

2. Midwifery

Note: After completion of 2 years theoretical classes, students (future nurses) will have to undergo 3 months internship for practical exposure.

ANM Nursing fresher have various choices after the completion of the diploma. After the successful completion of the ANM diploma, the graduates are registered as an ANM and is designated as a Nurse. They can start their career in nursing by joining as a Community Health Worker, Home Nurse, Health Visitor, Basic Health Worker & Rural Health Worker. After completing the ANM diploma course the graduates are eligible to pursue the GNM diploma programme. And, after completing the ANM and GNM both the graduates will become eligible to pursue BSc Nursing and BSc (Post-Basic) Nursing programmes.
